Jane Austen Remix Christmas at Pemberley Opens this Weekend

Prim and proper outfits, tea parties! Flirting in letters! Mr. Darcy! Yes, Utah, it’s time to get your Jane Austen on. Well, not exactly Jane Austen, more like Jane Austen fan fic. This weekend, Pioneer Theatre Company will open its production of Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley a “sequel” to Pride and Prejudice.

As you’ll recall from all your BBC binge watching and the Bridget Jones Diaries, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Bennet Darcy FINALLY married the elusive Colin Firth, oops, Mr. Darcy. The PTC production by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, imagines the happy couple’s first Christmas in, you guessed it, Pemberley, which is a place in England. Older sister Jane, middle sister Mary and younger sister Lydia join Lizzy for the festivities. Will an unexpected visitor catch the eye of bookish Mary? Will anyone touch anyone’s sleeve or share a furtive glance across a lavishly appointed table? My guess is yes.

The production, which is sure to become a favorite of Utah audiences, opens this Friday, Nov. 30 and runs through Dec. 15, 2018 runs from November 30 through December 15, 2018 at the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre 300 South 1400 East, SLC. Contact the box office at 801-581-6961 or visit www.pioneertheatre.org for tickets and information.
