Park City doesn’t seem to have grasped that it is completely surrounded by Utah.
With the election-filing window for city council and mayor seats set for June 1-7, summit county is offering a seminar on local politics for any resident who wants to jump into the fray.
In a state that’s right-leaning political culture has effectively limited public involvement in elections through a caucus system that insures that a few thousand wingnuts statewide call the shots, the Free State of Park City’s openness is refreshing.
The seminar covers campaign regulations, campaign strategy, media manipulation and transitioning from voiceless citizen to political boss.
Why doesn’t Salt Lake City offer a similar seminar for anyone considering challenging the mayor and city council? After the homeless shelter-siting fiasco, it would be standing room only at the Vivant Center.
