Event Preview: Carmelite Fair

The Carmelite nuns of the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are a group of 12 cloistered nuns who have dedicated their lives to praying for the world. The main source of income for the nuns each year is the Carmelite Fair, held on the third Sunday of September each year. This year, the annual Carmelite Fair will be held September 17 from 11 am – 5 pm at the Carmelite Monastery 5714 Holladay Blvd.

The Carmelite Fair is a fun for all ages event with live entertainment including a variety of dancers and Utah Pipe Band. An assortment of rides and games will be available for children of all ages. A Variety of food including Mexican, Italian and Chinese will be available as well as hotdogs, hamburgers and ice cream. There will also be a live and a silent auction with a variety of prizes including a Kia Soul, a Tragger Grill, an Apple iPad, $200 in cash, and many more.

The Carmelite Fair is preceded by the “Run for the Nuns” 5k walk/run. This 5k is open to all ages and fitness levels and will start at 8 am on September 17. For more information and to registers click here.

This year a “Golf for the Nuns” tournament will also be held at the Homestead Resort Crater Spring Golf Course following the fair on September 23. If you are interested in volunteering to help with set up of the fair you can join in the week prior to the fair starting at 9 am and ending at sunset each day. All able bodies are welcome to help with set up and tear down.
