“Being a photographer means not only to look, but to sustain the gaze of others.” -Chris Marker
The magic moment when an eye connects with the world through a camera lens is made even more extraordinary when that captured moment captivates the gaze of others. An inherently unique art form due to it’s mechanical processes, photography, according to theorist Andre Bazin, “does not create eternity, as art does– it embalms time.” “Captivate” showcases photographic works that reflect an appreciative attitude toward the beauty around us while simultaneously challenging reality and subverting the everyday images that dominate our society. By preserving moments in time, these artists compel us to share their unique gaze and experience our world’s wonders and mysteries.
Featured artists include Essie Shaw, Ivar Kljavin, Janna Jensen, Nathan Gentry, Tamara Buck, Kindia Du Plessis, and many more.
This show will hang August 2nd through August 28th, with a gallery stroll reception on Friday August 19th from 6-9pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
