Description
The Sanderson Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is celebrating Better Speech and Hearing Month in May with “Bring Back Music Into Your Life” on Saturday, May 19, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at 5709 S. 1500 W., Taylorsville.
Various local vendors will be onsite to share community resources, and presentations will teach participants how to appreciate music and follow musical aspirations. This event is for people who are hard of hearing, deaf or have a family member who is hard of hearing.
Movie screenings and an accessible dance floor by Vibe Music Events will be running throughout the event. Presentations will be held at 5 p.m. with Pete McDonald, a hearing instrument specialist, presenting on “Hearing Aid Music Programs, Streaming and Apps,” and at 6 p.m. with Maclain Drake of Vibe Music Events, presenting on “Music, Acting and Hearing Loss.”
Live captioning (CART), hearing loops and ASL interpreters will be available. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience hearing loop technology throughout the event. It’s recommended for participants to have an audiologist activate the telecoil (T-coil) in their hearing aids or cochlear implants prior to the event to experience great sound through the hearing loop.
The event is free and open to the public. To register, visit deafservices.utah.gov and click on “Events and Classes” or contact Chelle Wyatt at 801-266-4536 or chellegeorge@utah.gov.
