As Ballet West’s world-famous production of The Nutcracker graces the stage of the Capitol Theatre, the stories of real-life romances among the company appear on the pages of Salt Lake magazine. Eight Ballet West dancers (four couples) pose for us and tell the tale of how they came to be in a relationship with another of Ballet West’s dancers and, for some of them, what it is like to be both partners and dance partners.

Also featured in this issue, the Great Salt Lake’s future is looking bleak and the fallout from its possible desiccation could be near-apocalyptic. Understanding how we got into this mess could also be the key to understanding how we fix it—but we have to start taking responsibility for our part. And, our Road Trip Travel Series concludes with a drive through the Rainbow State. Escape the cold to Hawaii with this guide to experiencing the many microclimates and terrain and wonders of Maui from the road.

In Park City Life, we might have found the best barbecue in Utah, and it seems there are two things Park City can’t get enough of: ski season parking availability and affordable housing to support the seasonal and year-round workforce. Finally, Salt Lake magazine celebrates the holiday season in The Hive with a ready-to-watch list of the most festive holiday movies made in Utah, the best holiday goodie gift baskets for everyone on your list, and the true meaning of A Christmas Carol.
