If it seems like it was just yesterday that Foster the People came to SLC, it’s because it kind of was (last September, to be exact, but who’s counting?). Suffice it to say that this fan—who has been following them from show to show (not in a creepy way, though) since 2012—was pleasantly surprised to hear the news. Watch out for their re-landing this coming Monday, July 23.
This time, the band will take a considerably larger stage than their previous stops at the Complex. They’ll play the USANA Amphitheater. Mark Foster, Mark Pontius, Cubby Fink, and Isom Innis will join longtime pop-rockers Paramore on their The After Laughter tour, alongside bedroom-pop singer Jay Som.
While the guys haven’t produced a new album since their release of Sacred Hearts Club last year (that would be one hell of an impressive feat, though), their collab with The Knocks on “Ride or Die” continues with their tradition of writing music about seizing the moment, while hanging onto the edge. Meanwhile, one of their poppiest hits from Sacred Hearts, “Sit Next to Me” has been making rounds on the airwaves with traction recalling “Pumped Up Kicks.”
As one who has reveled in watching their live show evolve each time, I’m pretty stoked for this. And if you’re a fan of the band, or simply dig music that deftly blends pop with substantive, beatnik lyrics, led by a singer with an impeccable falsetto, you should probably be stoked, too.
