Staff Picks

Salt Lake magazine staff members know the hottest events in the Beehive. Here’s what we’ll be up to this weekend.

Working Like a Dog

It may be Labor Day, but it doesn’t mean working dogs get a day off. We’ll be up in Soldier Hollow watching champion sheepdogs do their stuff with some help from top handlers from Scotland, Wales, South Africa and other sheepish places.

Two Treats, One Parking Spot

It’s gonna be hot—as an experienced Texan, my advice is to stay in. Have brunch at Manoli’sloukinaki and eggs—then go upstairs to Basalt Day Spa for the works: facial, massage, etc. in a serene atmosphere. Finish by shopping for local products and treasures in their tiny boutique, then drive slowly home and it should be just about time for a cocktail.

Good news: It’s a long weekend. Bad news: It’s the end of summer.

I’ll be donning my white jeans and white shoes for the last time this year (and thanking my local union. obviously) at Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City this Labor Day. The five-star resort has family-friendly activities planned all weekend for the kids and grown-ups alike, but you’ll likely find this mama poolside reading Nora Ephron essays with a margarita in hand.

What a way to say goodbye to summer.
