What’s Up This Weekend?

Where has February gone? March is just days away and I can already sense daylight fighting to linger on. Spring is ever so slowly taking winter’s place—I think a sigh of relief is in order! A new season around the corner feels like something to celebrate during these distressing news-filled days. Celebrate the new month this weekend with some of these lighthearted events:

Catch The Delfonics at The Egyptian Theatre: La La La La La La La La La Means I love You! The Delfonics are in town, baby! Featuring original singer William “Poogie” Hart! (The Philadelphian in me is freaking out). If you don’t already know who they are, you should really get to know them. This Philadelphia based soul group was huge in the 60’s and 70’s for their sultry love songs. Playing tonight, Friday February 28th at 8PM and Saturday February 29th at 8PM at the Egyptian Theatre. Buy tickets here.

Speed Dating at Handle Bar: Saturday, February 29th 2020, ages: 25-39 at 7PM, 751 North 300 West, Salt Lake City, UT, 84103. I know, I know—speed dating sounds so forced. But this event is different: no name tags, no cheesy party decorations. Just a laid back atmosphere to meet fellow singles in the area. Give it a shot, who knows! You might meet your soulmate—or at the very least enjoy my favorite “bee-have” cocktail while you’re there.

Utah Arts Festival 2020 Masquerade Party: I think we could all use a night out to dance our stresses away. From dancing and dining to casino-style games, contests and live entertainment, the Masquerade Party promises to be an evening of fun and festivities all in support of the Utah Arts Festival. Saturday February 29, 2020 from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM at Venue 6SIX9.

HawkWatch: Birds in the Lab: Join the HawkWatch crew and some of their fine feathered friends at NHMU this Saturday, February 29th! Observe live raptors up close and examine a variety of specimens, including feathers, eggs, and claws. Learn more about birds of prey and what HawkWatch International is doing to protect them and our shared environment. HawkWatch takes place on the last Saturday of the month from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM.

Intro To Worm Composting Class: Get down and dirty this weekend! Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 10:30 AM–12:00 PM at Downeast Home & Clothing. Are you interested in worm composting? Sounds gross—but it’s actually an incredibly sustainable way to cut down the amount of food waste that would otherwise be sent to landfills. For more information, click here.

Stay positive and stay well, Salt Lake! Enjoy your weekend!
