The Beehive Skate Revolution (BSR) is a recreational roller derby league based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Established over a decade ago, BSR originated as the Red Rockettes before rebranding to its current name approximately six years ago.
The league’s mission centers on inclusivity, embracing individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. Members range in age from 18 to their 50s and come from various professions, including students, healthcare workers, artists, and more.
BSR operates with the philosophy that “Roller Derby is for EVERY body,” fostering a nonjudgmental and supportive environment. This approach allows both novices and seasoned skaters to participate without the pressures associated with competitive leagues. The league maintains a flexible membership, accommodating those with varying commitments by offering weekly practice sessions every Thursday from 7:00 to 10:00 PM.
Throughout the year, BSR organizes public bouts approximately every three months, providing skaters the opportunity to showcase their skills in a friendly and supportive setting. These events not only highlight the athleticism and dedication of the participants but also serve as community gatherings that promote the sport of roller derby.
In addition to their on-track activities, BSR members engage in various off-rink events, including social gatherings, community service, and participation in local parades and festivals. The league also collaborates with other roller derby teams in Utah, such as the Happy Valley Derby Darlins’ Bridal Veil Dolls, to organize interleague scrimmages and foster a sense of camaraderie within the state’s roller derby community.
