Time for Tumbleweeds
Tumbleweeds is back! Utah Film Center presents the 6th annual Tumbleweeds Film Fest for Children and Youth at Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. Now before you grumble about seeing another animated superhero flick with the kids, let me stop you. These are quality independent and international films for both children and parents. Think Sundance, but for kids. Last year, my family and I attended the opening night party, film and a post-screening Q&A session with the film’s producers. My kids were totally into it (see image above). In addition to film screenings, kids can enjoy workshops on Maya 3D design, screenwriting and filmmaking.

Brett Dennen
Folksy ginger singer-songwriter Brett Dennen is definitely worth the trip up Parley’s Canyon for his show at O.P. Rockwell Saturday night. Dennen’s nasally voice is unmistakeable, and his tender-hearted writing style is a breath of fresh air in a world of misogynistic and dumbed-down lyrics—even when he’s singing about subjects as simple as his dog, but especially when he’s singing about love. He’s touring in support of his new album, produced by kingmaker Dave Cobb, on Saturday. Show starts at 9pm. Tickets still available here.

Apocalypse Gala
The end times are near or, at least, so is NOW-ID’s Second Annual House of Apocalypse Gala. On Saturday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m., Addictive Behavior Motorworks will open its doors to the Queen of Gasoline and all her vampy friends. The bazaar will feature live musicians, dancers, fortune tellers, video projections, an auction and a dance party. This is a 21 and over event with beer and spirits donated from Squatters/Wasatch Breweries and Dented Brick Distillery. Taking place during the upcoming quarter blood moon, the gala is an “excuse to say hell yes!”
