Staff Picks: Beer & Festivals

Salt Lake magazine staff members know the hottest events in the Beehive. Here’s what we’ll be up to this weekend.

Oktoberfest in Utah? I know, I’ve heard all the out-of-towner’s jokes already.

Look, I know we’re not Germany—but our celebration of fall is not worthy of outright dismissal, either. We’ve got lots of good local beer! We’ve got mountains! And we’ve got so much good music! Why not combine them all in one place as Snowbird has? Oh, and add in some family-friendly activities because we’re still Utah, after all!

So, this weekend, I suggest you take the 20-minute drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon, buy a refillable beer stein and some tokens (thanks to Utah’s arcane booze laws) and save room for some sausage in a pretzel bun and potato pancakes. And, don’t forget to do the chicken dance in the big tent.

Prost!

9th & 9th Street Festival

Come one, come all to the annual 9th & 9th Street Festival.

The street will be closed off, but don’t worry parking is easy, you can park on side streets or in the Smiths Parking lot. There will be numerous local vendors, food, live music and just and all around celebration of the street!  Take advantage of the huge sidewalk sale—up to 70% off—and complimentary beverages throughout the day to keep you going!
